Disable Access to File URLs in Internet Explorer (All Windows)

Normally you can use the Internet Explorer address bar to access standard files and folders. This setting disables that functionality and only allows access to Internet URLs.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoFileUrl' using the settings below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Note: Requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.

Note: Some browser versions may also require the NoRun setting enabled to activate this restriction.
